Acquired by CVS in 1997; all Revco stores were converted to the CVS nameplate.
Revco Discount Drug Centers grew out of Detroit into one of the country's biggest drugstore chains, dominant across the Midwest and Appalachia with a deep-discount approach to prescriptions and sundries. The company survived a troubled 1980s leveraged buyout and bankruptcy, then rebuilt itself, only to be acquired by CVS in 1997. Every Revco store was rebranded CVS, instantly extending that chain's national footprint and ending the Revco name.
